Two common restorations offered at Hunt Valley Dental are Crowns and Bridges. Both are used to help with the cosmetic appearance of your smile, while addressing other concerns.
Crowns are recommended for patients when they have a tooth that does not have enough tooth structure left to properly hold a filling, or for teeth that have undergone root canal therapy. Teeth with chips and cracks may also benefit from crowns. Crowns can be made in one of two ways. Crowns can either be all-porcelain, which is the most natural-looking type of restoration, or they can be porcelain fused to metal crowns, which will help give the restoration strength when being used in places such as the back of the mouth that need the most chewing efficiency. Bridges are used when replacing gaps left behind by a missing tooth or teeth. Bridges are constructed with two crowns that fit over the adjoining teeth and then one or more crowns connected together to replace the missing teeth. It, in essence, “bridges the gap.” Bridges can also be made with either all-porcelain or porcelain fused to metal.
