What is CEREC?

Hi, this is Dr. Tom Rhodes from Hunt Valley Dental. We serve Northern Baltimore County and The Greater Baltimore area.

Today I am speaking about crowns in a day. This is the name that we use for a procedure using the CEREC system.

CEREC is a brand name. It allows us to digitally scan your tooth’s shape and fabricate a crown here in the office so that you don’t have to leave with a temporary crown.

What are the benefits of CEREC same-day crowns?

Traditionally we have people wear the temporary crown for several weeks. The temporary crowns were notorious for coming off and having to be recemented.

Then you’d have to come back and be anesthetized the second time to get the crown on your tooth.

Now we can prepare the tooth, scan the shape of the tooth into the computer, and the computer helps us to design the crown.

Then we take a solid block of porcelain and mill the crown while you are here in the office. This allows us to give you a cemented permanent crown at that same visit.

Please feel free to contact us if you need further information.
